SSX is pure fun

Summary

I have been playing SSX since Tricky came out for the Nintendo Gamecube when I was in Elementary School. I loved SSX Tricky and played it all the time. I never played SSX 3 however, instead choosing to get SSX On Tour when it came out. I loved On Tour more than Tricky because of the free ride option where you could descend the entire mountain. This game has no free roam, but rest assured, this game is still a heck of a lot of fun.

In SSX you basically have three game modes: Trick it, Race it, and Deadly Descent. Trick It has you competing against other riders to get the highest score by doing tricks. It is my favorite game mode because it is just such a blast racking up huge combos and leveling out the instant before you hit the ground to get a smooth landing. Race It has you competing against other riders to get down the mountain the fastest. Race It can be a bit more challenging than Trick It, however, because you need to keep doing tricks to maintain your boost to get down the mountain the fastest. The last game mode is Deadly Descent. This mode has you simply trying to survive the perils of the mountain. You have certain "gear" that are specific for certain Deadly Descents that are a requirement to attempt the descent. These gear help you handle each mountain's specific danger. This mode would probably have to be my second favorite because it is really fun just trying to survive the treacherous terrain.

Multiplayer could hardly be called multiplayer because there is no set start and finish against other racers as far as I can see. You basically pick a peak and there are thousands of other riders trying to get the highest trick score/best race time on them. When you are going down the mountain you will see other riders' times/scores and you attempt to beat these scores. But so far, I have not seen an option to just join a match with other riders and compete against them in real time, starting the race at the same time just like a single event match. I hope this option is in there and that I just haven't found it yet.

Overall SSX is a game that is just meant to play and have tons of fun pulling off crazy combos and racing down mountains at insane speeds, all the while having a blast because you know there is no way any of this could happen in real life. Somewhere, Sir Isaac Newton is turning over in his grave. What am I doing still on this computer? I've got some laws of physics to break.

The omission of head to head multiplayer especially locally, ruins the fun!

Summary

Let me start by saying that the single player is incredible. The game is so much fun. There is a ton of content and even the way the online mode works is great. I spent 2 hours last night trying to beat a friends score and although we weren't head to head, I felt like I was competing with him. It is sort of like Trials HD.

With that being said the omission of multiplayer features like head to head or where another profile on your xbox can level up simultaneously with you was a huge mistake. My fiance and I used to play SSX3 for hours on end together. We were so excited when we heard this was coming. I didn't even bother checking to see if there was local MP/COOP. I mean why should I. That should just be a given. But here it is not and it ruins the game for me, and us. I could go on and on about how much it sucks but that's all you need to know. Once I finish the leveling some characters and smashing some online records, I'll probably be trading or selling this game as it is not the gem I was hoping it would be. This game should have had 4 player races. Why am I sitting here watching while my partner plays? Come on guys, it's 2012, don't omit traditional features from games like this that thrive with multiplayer modes.

Take my advice, while this is a fun game. It's definitely one you might want to just wait for it to hit the bargain bin. The online is solid, but it too could benefit from private matches and public lobbies in addition to the elements there.

I was not expecting to get so much entertainment out of this game since it didn't have split screen, But I was wrong

Summary

The game actually has a lot of potential, it's a game that starts off really boring because your just forced to do the long demo version of the free fall and tutorial, and then your off to some great fun, I bought the game not knowing it didn't have split screen, but the graphics and gameplay and especially the global online mode which is what my friend and I took turns playing for hours is what made the game fun. It's amazing, the graphics are awesome and the gameplay feels perfect, it's easy to pick this game up and start doing amazing and crazy tricks. the characters seem a lot smarter and they don't fall as much as the old ssx games, however all the fun from the old ssx games is here, I have had all ssx games and I can easily say this is the best SSX and the best snowboarding game out there. Buy it
